Are the five ¡°Sola¡±s emphasised by the Reformation ¨C Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, Solus Christus and Soli Deo Gloria ¨C suitable for today¡¯s Chinese context? In the lecture, the speaker will surface three points for reflection: Firstly, does the theological language of the five “Sola”s inevitably lead to “exclusive” theological thinking? Secondly, can the dogmatic expressions of the “Sola”s overcome the problem of over-abstraction and the devaluation of praxis in theological reasoning? Finally, how can the theological tradition of the “Sola”s continue to renew the life and commission of the contemporary church?
