Enrolling in a seminary was the last thing on my mind when I needed a sabbatical from church work. Yet God’s timing proved perfect. My time in SBC has allowed me to encounter God through his word and people. The skills I’ve developed in reading deeply, engaging with Scripture, and articulating my thoughts have not only enhanced my confidence in ministry but also driven me to seek God for answers to life’s challenging moments. During those times, the faculty and my classmates have embodied God’s love and compassion. Their love for God and man, along with their humility to learn from Scripture, has inspired me to do the same. Looking back, I realized I had found the rest I was seeking. I am grateful to SBC for this invaluable season of spiritual growth and renewal.

While serving in student ministry, I encountered students with brilliant questions about life and its purpose. They expected me to give them a biblical perspective to their questions. That’s when I knew training on handling the scriptures would greatly help such conversations. That is why I decided to study at SBC—to give a stronger testimony of the truth in my future ministries, which will continue to be among university students. My time at SBC has helped me grow not only in biblical knowledge but in many other spiritual and character aspects as well. My understanding of who God is has expanded. The more I feel closer to God, the more awestruck I become by his holiness and love. I am inspired by my professors, who teach with humility and competency. I aspire to do the same.

During my four years at SBC, I have experienced God’s provision in countless ways. In my first year, all classes were online due to the pandemic, and I initially doubted whether the College would guide my studies and spiritual growth. However, God’s provision was clear through supportive teachers and caring friends. In my second year, I arrived in Singapore and was the only student on campus with my appearance and espresso-coloured skin. This worried me, but SBC provided a caring and understanding community. SBC feels like a home filled with diverse cultures, broadening my horizons. I also learned what true worship is and the role music plays in it, helping me enjoy worshipping God in my Christian life. Servant leadership is a quality I see in everyone at SBC, and I pray it becomes part of me. Looking back, I am truly grateful for God’s provisions.

These four years have marked a transformative milestone in my life. More than just being trained with counselling skills, I realized how I am being shaped into whom God has designed me to be. In my brokenness, I started embracing my identity as my Father’s daughter and experiencing his love for me more deeply. The profound integration of psychology and theology gave me clarity on my call in human flourishing and gave me a deep appreciation on the sacred role of a Christian counsellor. I am eternally grateful to all my tutors and supervisors who not only imparted generously with excellence for their craft, but also inspired me with their love for God. And I deeply value my fellow classmates who have nurtured my growth and healing with their compassion, vulnerability, and companionship.
