English lecture with Chinese interpretation
The early church regarded Jesus as “divine” from the very beginning. Yet the question remains, “Divine in what sense?” There were many ways of being divine, a god, or a deity in antiquity.
When the first Christian generation identifies Jesus as divine, whether in Paul’s Letters, the Gospel of Mark, or in the Nicene Creed, they are using imagery and language that they did not invent themselves and which did not emerge in a vacuum.
This talk explores the “what” of Jesus’s divinity in early Christian literature in the first and second centuries.
