Rev. Dr. Clement Chia visited alumni and promoted revamped programmes in Japan, the US, and Canada. In Japan, he conducted preaching seminars at Yokohama Overseas Chinese Christian Church and a discipleship workshop for Chinese pastors in Tokyo. He also preached at a summer camp organized by three Chinese churches. In the US, he went to New York and led a week on awakening to theological education organized by New York Chinese Christian Workers, Inc., provided consultation to local seminaries, and preached at three churches. He also went to Los Angeles where he gave a report to the North America Fellowship board members and taught an online class about the Corinthian church scandals. In Canada, he went to Toronto and met alumni from the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and 90s and visited two seminaries and a Christian organization. He also went to Vancouver and conducted a discipleship seminar and a leadership succession workshop, preached to three congregations in two churches, and provided consultation to a seminary. Finally, Dr. Chia spoke on unity at the sixth gospel convention of Khek in Kuching, preached at four churches in Singapore, and was a keynote speaker for the 74th anniversary and the 44th missions conference of the Church of Christ of Malaya (Singapore).

71st Founders’ Day

SBC celebrated our 71st Founders’ Day on 17 Aug with our esteemed Chairman of the Board of Directors, Prof. Cheong Hee Kiat, as our guest speaker. The College appreciated the timely encouragement from Hebrews 11:1–2, 39–40 as Prof. Cheong encouraged SBC to move forward in faith while looking to God in all circumstances.

Dr. Peter Ho was invited to speak at the International Baptist Church (Singapore) Equip II Series on the Pentateuch. He also published a book review of Steffen Jenkins’s Imprecations in the Psalms, in Expository Times (2023): 474.

Dr. Calvin Chong conducted a workshop on “Music Making with Virtual Instruments” and a two-part workshop on “Music and Community Outreach” at the Selah Retreat 2023 organized by SCM. He also presented a paper entitled “The Digital Turn for Missions in the Post-Pandemic Era” at the ETHOS Annual Conference 2023.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Law was a plenary speaker on “Minding the Gap in the Great Commission: Equipping and Teaching Disciples (Contextually)” at the online Lausanne 4 SEA Regional Gathering and a panel speaker on “Transcending Ethnocentrism and Racism” at the CCCOWE Chinese Global Missions Summit in? Taipei. He also wrote a book review of Christ Followers in Other Religions: The Global Witness of Insider Movements by Darren Todd Duerksen, in Journal of Asian Mission (Nov 2023).

Dr. Justin Lee gave a special lecture for the Advanced Studies department entitled “The Mission and People of God: Rethinking Theology and Theological Methodology in Asia”. He also presented a paper entitled “A Song to the Beloved? Eusebius and Basil on Psalm 45 (44 LXX)” at the annual Asia-Pacific Early Christian Studies Society conference at Trinity Theological College. Finally, he read a paper entitled “Contextualization: Current State in Southeast Asia” for the SOTE conference on honour and shame.

Dr. Jean Luah participated in Impact magazine’s panel discussion on the topic of wisdom. The writeup will be in the magazine’s Dec 2023–Jan 2024 issue. On 12 Oct 2023, she was conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Theology) of the University of Durham, UK. The title of her PhD dissertation is “Wise Readers and Reading Wisely: Themes, Practitioners and Exegeses in Theological Interpretation of Scripture”.?

李志秋老师于7月3日在英国剑桥普世基督教中心的研讨会上发表了〈“从那城出来吧!”:启示录十七至十八章对亚洲基督徒在当代处境中的意义与使命〉。

吴仲诚老师于9月4至8日在布里斯班神学院教授“约伯记”密集课程,于9月13日在BC讲坛讲授“从智慧神学看时间(传道书)”线上讲座。

张心玮老师于八、九月在婆罗洲民都鲁福音堂讲授“敬畏神:哈该书和玛拉基书”,并于9月24日为德国卡塞尔、马尔堡和哥廷根华人团契讲授“传道书的积极与消极”。
